conference centre at Dunsmuir Lodge is located fifteen miles/22kms
north of Victoria on the Saanich Peninsula. Called "the gateway
to Vancouver Island", the peninsula is comprised of three surrounding
communities
- Central Saanich
- North Saanich
- Sidney
Each has distinct qualities which sets them apart.
They range from local farming with roadside markets to specialty
boutiques and thriving commerce. It's a wonderful place to shop,
explore dozens of beaches, go fishing, play golf or cruise in the
nearby Pacific Ocean waters.
Just a short drive south of Dunsmuir Lodge lies
Victoria, the capital city of British Columbia since 1871. Victoria
is an awe inspiring blend of old word charm, youthful vitality and
natural beauty. In the city centre, the narrow streets are lined
with vintage 19th-century stone buildings as well as lampposts boasting
baskets overflowing with flowers of the season. Experienced travellers
consistently rate Victoria as one of the foremost destinations in
the world.
Located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island,
Victoria benefits from spectacular natural surroundings and a wealth
of cultural events. It receives mild temperatures throughout the
year; rarely will the temperature venture below freezing. Victoria
also has active business, academic, and scientific communities.
It is the home of one of Canada's top-rated universities, the University
of Victoria. It also successfully hosted the 1994 Commonwealth Games.
